Beiträge über 'Europa'

Salzburg, August 27 & 28, 2015

Keynote Speakers: David Hulme (Manchester) & Robert Walker (Oxford)

The Centre for Ethics and Poverty Research, University of Salzburg,  invites papers that contribute to an elaborated understanding of severe, extreme or absolute poverty in Europe. Papers should address the specific situations and challenges of groups endangered by absolute poverty such as undocumented refugees, migrant beggars, homeless people, street children or discuss evils related to severe poverty (malnutrition, physical and mental illness, stigma, isolation, etc.). We encourage papers from scholars with backgrounds in the humanities or the social sciences, as well as from practitioners. Furthermore, we particularly welcome papers approaching the normative and political implications of absolute poverty in Europe and its alleviation.

Aline Sierp (Maastricht University) und Eugen Pfister (Universität Wien) organisieren dieses Jahr die Konferenz der History of European Integration Research Society (HEIRS), die von 05.06.2014-06.06.2014 in Maastricht stattfinden wird. Auszug aus dem Call for Paper:
Attempts to generate a European cultural or political identity are almost as old as the European integration project itself. Official identity politics on the other hand are a fairly new phenomenon. Despite the fact that social scientists have invested considerable efforts in trying to analyse the latter, historical approaches are still underrepresented. This conference aims at understanding the on-going debates on cultural and political identity. It will investigate efforts made by different political and social actors since the 1950s to generate a sense of belonging to the European Union. How did early attempts of fostering a European identity look like? Who were the actors and agents? Is a common identity dependent on the actions of classical political actors? mehr »

Die DFG-Nachwuchsforschergruppe zum Thema “The Political Economy of Global Financialization” veranstaltet von 10.-11. April 2014 im Hotel Elephant in Weimar einen Workshop zum Thema „The European and Global Political Economy: From Financial Expansion towards Financial Repression?“ Aus dem Call for Papers (PDF):
The workshop aims to clarify conceptually and empirically, inasmuch the thesis of a new phase of ‘financial repression’ is justified (also in comparison to developments in the US or Asia: China and Japan) and conceptually useful to understand the current situation. Furthermore, it will discuss the likely implications on further processes of financialization: will they continue as in the past, will they come to an end, or will they unfold in a different manner?
